🚀 IrishSat is Going to Space in Spring 2026!
In Spring 2026, aboard the SpaceX Transporter-16 Mission, IrishSat is sending it’s first payload, CHARMS, into orbit!
In partnership with NearSpace Launch, the 2024-2025 IrishSat team developed and built a magnetorquer module for a 0.5U CubeSat as part of their NearSpace Education program. To learn more about the project, visit the NearSpace Project Page!

Notre Dame’s Satellite and Space Engineering Design Team

The mission of IrishSat is to educate, inspire, and innovate at the University of Notre Dame, seeking to prepare the next generation of astronautical engineers through hands-on experience with the fundamental concepts of design, construction, testing, and implementation of space technology with the ultimate goal of launching and operating CubeSats through NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative.

Formulate, Lift, Observe, And Testing; Data Recovery And Guided On-board Node is a NASA sponsored competition for undergraduate students at universities to design a guided data vault recovery system for high altitude balloon missions.

NASA Starshade Challenge – 1st Place!
IrishSat submited its prototype for a NASA-sponsored challenge to design a starshade for an earth-based telescope in December 2023. This shade is deployed in orbit with flower-like petals that block out a star’s light and allows the telescope to detect and study exoplanets. A 3:100 scale model was created along with CAD diagrams sent to NASA HOEE (Hybrid Observatory for Earth-like Exoplanets). The team placed first during the challenge’s results announcement on January 29th.
