IrishSat supports the work for four major projects in order to develop a functional and tested satellite system.
CubeSat
Developing a CubeSat bus for NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative. Implementing systems for solar power generation, attitude/orientation control, communications systems, and onboard flight hardware.
GOAT Lab
Developing a Helmholtz Cage to generate low-earth orbit electromagnetic fields and a in-house built gyroscope for attitude control tests of a CubeSat. Recently, we have added a custom-built vibration table for launch environment testing.
Ground Station
Developing a ground station on the roof of Nieuwland Hall to communicate with active satellites. Ground Station also implements some custom satellite tracking software to communicate with our coming CubeSat.
Iris/High Altitude Balloon
Developing an autonomously steering node and deployment system to deliver data from a High Altitude Balloon to a waypoint on the ground. IRIS also works as a reusable launch platform for hardware/software testing for our CubeSat.
